A line of defence which thrusts out towards the enemy .Thus the point of a bastion is the ‘salient angle’

A small tower in which sentries keep watch or make a look out for the approach of enemy.

Kleine uitkijk of wachttoren, uitgekraagd op de hoek van een walmuur, de saillant van een bastion of versterkt huis; later ook uitsluitend als versiering toegepast; ook wel genaamd arkel, peperbus of sentinel.
